Why updates break sites

A WordPress site is WordPress itself plus a dozen or more plugins and a theme, each updated on its own schedule by different people. Most updates are fine; now and then one conflicts with something else and breaks a page, a form or the checkout. That is why many owners stop updating, which is how sites end up hacked. We update a staging copy first, check what matters, and only then update the live site.

A flat monthly fee

Monthly plans have a flat fee, agreed after we have looked at the site, so you know the cost in advance. Anything outside the plan, such as a new feature, is quoted before any work starts.

How it works

  1. Free call

We look at the site, its plugins and how it is hosted.

From you: Admin and hosting access.
  2. Onboarding review

A health check of the site, a staging copy set up, and a flat monthly fee agreed.

  3. Monthly care

Updates, backups, checks and small fixes every month.

  4. When something is urgent

Tell us, and we start from a site we already know.

  5. Review

A regular look at what could be improved next.

What affects the price

Every project gets a fixed quote after a free call, so you know the total before anything starts. These are the things that move it.

  • Size of the site and number of plugins
  • WooCommerce and custom code
  • How much change you expect each month
  • Hosting setup
  • Number of sites

Where we have done this

Born Products
  • Online store
  • WooCommerce
  • Wholesale

Two ASP.NET gift sites merged into one wholesale WooCommerce store

Challenge
Born ran two separate, dated ASP.NET sites, one for aviation gifts and one for rail gifts. They looked outdated, most of all on phones, and the full product list sat behind one shared login. Born sells only to retailers, so prices had to stay hidden from the public.
Result
The new store went live on 28 February 2023, the date the client had asked for, on a new domain. Two sites and two catalogs became one store, and the client manages products and prices himself.
Uniparts
  • Online store
  • WooCommerce
  • Custom back end

An industrial parts catalogue with part-number search, quote requests and dealer prices

Challenge
Uniparts needed its older catalogue site rebuilt on WooCommerce. Customers had to find parts by part number, and dealers needed different prices from retail buyers.
Result
The new site went live on 1 July 2022 and the catalogue now holds more than 6,000 products that staff edit themselves. After speed work in September 2022 it scored GTmetrix A and Google PageSpeed 100 on desktop and 97 on mobile.
WordPress security plugin

Guardian Shield Lite

Our WordPress security plugin: code stays locked, known malware is removed with evidence kept, and every site reports to one hub.

  • Code locked, changes in recorded windows
  • Known malware removed, evidence kept
  • Every site watched from one hub

Questions about WordPress and WooCommerce maintenance.

What happens if an update breaks something?

It breaks on the staging copy, not your live site. We fix the conflict, or hold that update back until it is safe.

Do you maintain sites you did not build?

Yes. We review the site first, fix anything urgent, and then look after it like our own.

How much does a maintenance plan cost?

A flat monthly fee, set after we have looked at the size of the site, its plugins and what it needs. You know the fee before you commit.

Are backups included?

Yes. Off-site backups run on a schedule, and we test restoring them so you know they work.

Is WooCommerce maintenance different?

Yes. Store updates are treated as releases: checkout, payments, emails and stock are tested after every update, because a broken checkout costs sales immediately.
