Case study: Born Products

Two ASP.NET gift sites merged into one wholesale WooCommerce store

Born ran two separate, dated ASP.NET sites, one for aviation gifts and one for rail gifts. They looked outdated, most of all on phones, and the full product list sat behind one shared login. Born sells only to retailers, so prices had to stay hidden from the public.

In short

Born Products is a family owned wholesaler of aviation and rail themed gifts in Indianapolis, Indiana, selling T-shirts, mugs, toys and die-cast models to retailers only. Codiffy merged its two old ASP.NET sites into one WooCommerce store on a new domain, importing the products from both databases, and built the wholesale rules: prices and the phone number hidden until login, trade account requests with admin approval and a checkout without online payment. The store went live on 28 February 2023.

The short version

Challenge
Born ran two separate, dated ASP.NET sites, one for aviation gifts and one for rail gifts. They looked outdated, most of all on phones, and the full product list sat behind one shared login. Born sells only to retailers, so prices had to stay hidden from the public.
Approach
We extracted the products from both old databases into one WooCommerce store with Aviation and Rail categories and size variations, and built the wholesale rules: prices behind a login, trade account requests with admin approval and a checkout without online payment.
Result
The new store went live on 28 February 2023, the date the client had asked for, on a new domain. Two sites and two catalogs became one store, and the client manages products and prices himself.

About Born Products

Born Products is a family owned wholesaler in Indianapolis, Indiana. It sells aviation and rail themed gifts, from T-shirts and mugs to toys and die-cast models, to retailers only.

What Born needed

Born ran two separate ASP.NET sites, one for aviation products and one for rail products. The design looked outdated, most of all on phones, and the full product list and cart sat behind one shared login. The owner wanted to update products and prices himself, keep prices hidden from the public and, most likely, bring the two sites together. No cards were charged online.

What we did

  • Advice first One merged site, prices shown only after login, account approval, and no card data stored on the site. Design references and a home page wireframe came next.
  • Products moved, not retyped The product data extracted from both old databases and imported into WooCommerce, with size variations.
  • One store for two catalogs Aviation and Rail top categories, collapsible category lists, New Items and Sale Items pages and links to the digital catalogs.
  • Wholesale rules Prices and the phone number hidden until login, a limit on how many products guests can see, an account request form with admin approval and notification emails, and a checkout with no online payment.
  • Forms Contact, a catalog request for Aviation, Rail or both, and a mailing list sign-up, plus a category button on phones.
  • Launch and training The old domains redirect to the new store. We trained the admins by screen share, then fine-tuned the checkout and the account form.
  • Looked after since Updates tested on a staging copy before they reach the live store, two-factor login for admins, and monthly updates since 2024.

The result

The store went live on 28 February 2023, the date the client had asked for a week earlier. Two sites and two catalogs became one store on a new domain, and the client announced it to his customers by newsletter. He now manages products and prices himself and approves each trade account, and Born is still a maintenance client in 2026.

Questions about this project.

What does Born Products sell?

Aviation and rail themed gifts, such as T-shirts, mugs, toys and die-cast models. It is a family owned wholesaler and sells only to retailers, not to the public.

How do the wholesale rules work?

Prices and the phone number stay hidden until a customer logs in, guests can see only a limited number of products, retailers request an account that an admin approves, and orders are placed without online payment.

How were the products moved from the old sites?

We extracted the product data from both old ASP.NET databases and imported it into WooCommerce, with size variations, so nothing had to be entered again by hand.

An industrial parts catalogue with part-number search, quote requests and dealer prices

Challenge
Uniparts needed its older catalogue site rebuilt on WooCommerce. Customers had to find parts by part number, and dealers needed different prices from retail buyers.
Result
The new site went live on 1 July 2022 and the catalogue now holds more than 6,000 products that staff edit themselves. After speed work in September 2022 it scored GTmetrix A and Google PageSpeed 100 on desktop and 97 on mobile.

A WooCommerce store with purchase order checkout for a face shield maker

Challenge
Amdrecor sold its face shields through a separate GoDaddy shopping cart. In spring 2020 it wanted a clean WordPress store live quickly, with subscriptions, coupons, Canadian orders and a portal for wholesale partners.
Result
The new store replaced the GoDaddy cart at the turn of June and July 2020, and business buyers can check out with a purchase order number.
