Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce

Magento 2 comes in two editions: Magento Open Source, which is free to use, and Adobe Commerce, Adobe’s licensed edition with extra business-to-business and marketing features and optional cloud hosting. We work on both. The code, themes and extensions are largely the same, so most of what follows applies to either.

Why Magento stores slow down

Magento does a lot of work on every category and search page, so its speed depends on its setup: full-page caching, a search service such as OpenSearch, a tuned database and enough server resources. Many slow stores have one of those missing or misconfigured, or an extension that adds heavy database queries. We measure first, then fix the causes.

Staying current

Adobe releases security patches for Magento 2 regularly, and stores that fall behind become easy targets. Upgrades are done on a staging copy with your extensions and custom code tested, so the live store keeps taking orders.

How it works

  1. Free call

We talk about your store, its version, your extensions and what is not working.

From you: Admin access or a list of extensions, if you have it.
  2. Health check and quote

A written review of the store and a fixed quote for the work, in order of priority.

From you: Staging or code access.
  3. Work on staging

Upgrades, fixes and features built and tested on a copy of the store.

From you: Test orders and approval.
  4. Release

Changes deployed at a quiet time, with a way back if anything goes wrong.

  5. Keep it current

Optional ongoing patches, updates and monitoring.

What affects the price

Every project gets a fixed quote after a free call, so you know the total before anything starts. These are the things that move it.

  • Magento version and how far behind it is
  • Number and quality of extensions and custom modules
  • Catalog size, store views and currencies
  • Integrations with other systems
  • Hosting setup

Questions about magento development.

Should I stay on Magento or move to another platform?

It depends on your catalog, your budget and how much your store relies on Magento's advanced features. Magento suits large, complex stores; smaller stores often run for less on WooCommerce or Shopify. We give you an honest comparison with the costs of each option.

Can you upgrade an old Magento 2 store?

Yes. We check which extensions and custom code are compatible, update or replace what is not, and test everything on staging before upgrading the live store.

My store is still on Magento 1. What now?

Magento 1 has had no security updates since June 2020, so it should be moved, not patched. We plan the move to Magento 2 or another platform, including products, customers, orders and redirects from old addresses.

Do you work on Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure?

Yes. The development work is the same; changes are deployed through Adobe's cloud environments and tools, within the setup of your plan.

Can you speed up my Magento store?

Usually, yes. We measure your key pages, check caching, search, the database, extensions and hosting, fix the causes and measure again.
