Case study: Kirsch Electrical Services

Two outdated electrical contractor websites rebuilt into one

The company site and the owner's personal site both ran WordPress older than 5.0 on PHP 5.6, with themes that would break on a PHP upgrade. The mobile view was poor and the services were hard to understand.

In short

Kirsch Electrical Services is an electrical contractor in Vancouver, British Columbia, for residential installations, commercial upgrades and tenant improvements, service calls and ASHRAE 90.1 energy compliance consulting. Codiffy rebuilt its outdated WordPress website from the owner's specification and photos, with a landing page for the four service areas and a detail page with a contact form for each. Two sites became one, live since 13 April 2020.

The short version

Challenge
The company site and the owner's personal site both ran WordPress older than 5.0 on PHP 5.6, with themes that would break on a PHP upgrade. The mobile view was poor and the services were hard to understand.
Approach
We rebuilt the company site on a new theme around its four service areas, each with its own page and contact form, and updated the personal site to current plugins and PHP 7.3 before it was taken offline and redirected to the main site.
Result
The new site went live on 13 April 2020, about seven weeks after the go-ahead, and is still live in 2026 with the same four service areas.

About Kirsch Electrical Services

Kirsch Electrical Services is an electrical contractor in Vancouver, British Columbia. It handles residential installations, commercial upgrades and tenant improvements, service calls, and ASHRAE 90.1 energy compliance consulting.

What Kirsch needed

The owner ran two ageing WordPress sites, the company site and a personal site, and wanted better landing pages. Our audit found both on WordPress older than 5.0 and PHP 5.6, with themes built without child themes, so a PHP upgrade would break them. The mobile view was poor and the services were hard to understand. He chose a rebuild of the company site and an update of the personal site.

What we did

  • The personal site Plugins, theme and WordPress core updated and PHP raised to 7.3 (February 2020). It was later taken offline at the owner’s request and redirects to the main site.
  • The new company site Built on staging with a new theme, from the owner’s specification and photos: a landing page with four service sections, Residential, Commercial, Service Calls and ASHRAE 90.1, a detail page with a contact form for each, plus About, Blog, Privacy and Terms.
  • Refined after review A larger logo and name, a white header and footer, association logos, a boxed Why Us section, bullet layouts on the Residential page and a logo fix on phones.
  • Launch Live on 13 April 2020.

The result

The new site went live on 13 April 2020, about seven weeks after the go-ahead, and two sites became one. It is still live in 2026 with the same four service areas.

Questions about this project.

What does Kirsch Electrical Services do?

It is an electrical contractor in Vancouver, British Columbia: residential installations, commercial upgrades and tenant improvements, service calls, and ASHRAE 90.1 energy compliance consulting.

Why rebuild instead of updating?

Both old sites ran WordPress older than 5.0 on PHP 5.6, with themes built without child themes, so a PHP upgrade would have broken them. The owner chose a rebuild of the company site and an update of his personal site.

What happened to the second site?

We updated its plugins, theme and WordPress core and raised PHP to 7.3. Later it was taken offline at the owner's request, and it now redirects to the main site.
